The Salamander’s focus on all things equestrian is highlighted throughout the property, from horse bit design details on the bedding in each guest room to its thoughtful horse program. Its Equestrian Center sits on 25 acres and is home to a 22-stall stable and an outdoor riding arena, where staff conduct the popular Equi-Spective program, a lesson in better understanding relationships between horses, humans and nature. Beyond the excitement of getting up close and personal with the beautiful animals, the program serves as a teambuilding activity for groups to improve their communication and leadership skills.

Our group went through a portion of the program where we essentially became horse whisperers—a surprisingly emotional experience as you learn how your body language and posture create trust and respect between you and the horse. It’s difficult to describe, but members of our group walked away with a newfound understanding of animals and communication, and how we’re all connected.

While I chose zip lining over horseback riding, trail rides are another popular on-site equestrian option and can be arranged for your group, or ask the resort team to coordinate a polo match during a reception for an experience your attendees will talk about long after the meeting ends. The 14,000-sq.-ft. stable also doubles as event space, and has its own conference room and lobby peppered with local artwork.
