2019 15 Over 50: Mary Manier, CTA

By Connect Staff, April 29, 2019

Mary Manier, CTA, works in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as director of sales at Experience Grand RapidsAs a 2019 15 Over 50 honoree, Manier discusses her passion for the events industry.

What I do: As an expert on all that Grand Rapids has to offer, I match up unique requirements and preferences with the perfect venue and hotel solution. I listen closely to meeting planner needs. I love showing Grand Rapids to planners who have never visited.

How I got here: I graduated with a hospitality degree and had the opportunity to join Experience Grand Rapids as a sales manager when they expanded its sales team. After many years of being a sales manager, was promoted to director of sales.

Greatest career accomplishment: Booking my first large (4,000-room night) national convention. It was a bid that needed state support and present to the attendees for a vote. Grand Rapids was one of six cities. The confidence I gained from making that presentation and securing the bid helped me book several national conventions since.

Impressive stats: I am celebrating over 35 years with the DMO. From the records we could find digitally, I have booked more than 265,000 room nights.
