CIC Rebrands to Events Industry Council

Events Industry Council logoThe latest rebrand for the meetings industry comes from the Convention Industry Council (CIC ), which will now be known as Events Industry Council. A new logo was also revealed with the name change, announced this week.

“To be truly representative of our industry, it became apparent a name change was needed to better reflect the direction of the industry and the organizations we represent,” according to the organization’s website. “‘Events’ consistently came to the forefront as the most universal, progressive and preferred descriptor.”

Among other recent rebrands is Destination Marketing Association International, which will officially become Destinations International at the organization’s annual conference in Montreal next month. The International Live Events Association, formerly International Special Events Society, also rebranded last year.

CIC, now Events Industry Council, is most known for the Certified Meeting Professional credential it offers. Its Accepted Practices Exchange (APEX) initiative will now become a core part of the organization rather than a subbrand, allowing closer alignment with member organizations, shares Michael Owen, chair of Event Industry Council’s APEX Standards Committee.

The APEX effort will continue to address issues affecting the industry; produce and harvest relevant content; and promote development and implementation of industrywide accepted practices to create and enhance efficiency throughout the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry.

Event Industry Council’s annual CMP Conclave will be held Nov. 13-15 at MGM National Harbor.
