It Takes Two: Pantone’s Colors of the Year

By Anna Dunn, February 11, 2016

SwatchPantone switched things up in 2016 when it named two colors of the year: Rose Quartz (a muted pink) and Serenity (a soft blue). The subtle shades are a departure from its bold choices of the past and reflect wellness, order and peace. Chicago-based event designer Debi Lilly of A Perfect Event shares three ideas on how to incorporate the relaxing tones.

“Pale pink can quickly become too feminine, so use small accents of Rose Quartz with lots of whites in vintage china, natural peony blooms and watercolor menus. For a swanky soiree, try pink velvet-covered lounge seating.”

“Fill glass candy jars with soft-hued Serenity- and Rose Quartz-colored sweets, and serve glass bottles filled with custom prosecco punch. Create ‘cookie flights’ in mini glasses filled with rose-flavored, pink macarons.”

“Keep soft hues separate and focused in their own dramatic area. Accent glowing tables in Serenity while uplighting columns in Rose Quartz.”
