What I do: I work with groups of more than 151 that are headquartered out of the northeast market. One of my key functions is to support venues across New York’s boroughs, including the convention center, hotels and more, as well as assisting service providers with sales and development opportunities.
How I got here: I started my hotel career at 16 in operations as a restaurant host and banquet server at a Sheraton property in New Jersey. After falling in love with the industry, I studied hospitality management at Johnson & Wales University and at the same time, completed an extensive externship program at the Providence Marriott. Post-graduation, I rose through the ranks of Marriott International over the course of a decade, ultimately handling their top association and corporate accounts. In 2015, I transitioned into the CVB side of the business as national sales director for the San Diego Tourism Authority, immediately followed by accepting my current role at NYC & Company.
Greatest career accomplishment: My greatest career accomplishment has been the nomination by my peers to serve as chairman of Northeast Convention and Visitors Bureau Representatives. My two-year term started in 2017 and since then, we have grown the association to more than 30 destinations, worked together to bolster the reputation and services of DMOs worldwide, and offered value to our clients via world-class, joint events!
What I am working on Now: I’m eager to build on the success of a gathering I had the pleasure of spearheading earlier this year: the annual tri-state meeting planner event. My goal is to expand attendance through an under-wraps collaborative network, increasing attendee’s ability to connect with one another and simultaneously network with New York City venues and services.
What I do outside of work: I actively engage with the Bowery Mission, an organization that has been helping the homeless in NYC since the 1800s. Together, with several customers and industry colleagues, we recently served more than 200 meals to those in need. I am also very involved with other New York organizations, including Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter, Ronald McDonald House and the Soho International Film Festival. When I am not focused on my career and volunteering within the community, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Amy, and daughter, Alessandra Juliette.
