2018 40 Under 40: Olivia Weir

By Connect Staff, August 3, 2018

Olivia Weir, 27, works in Toronto as an event manager at Redstone Agency. As a 2018 40 Under 40 honoree, Weir discusses her passion for the events industry.

What I do: In addition to overseeing a team of three full-time event planners and two account coordinators, I manage a large portfolio of events for various clients including but not limited to meetings and conferences, award programs, galas, golf tournaments and exhibitions.

How I got here: Through university, I was always employed within the hospitality industry before taking a position as an executive assistant at Bank of Montreal. While employed with BMO, I managed several closing events and client engagements that made me realize I had a passion for events. I took a leap and started my career in events as an intern at Heller Productions. I received a full-time position as events assistant after only three weeks. Within three years at Heller Productions, I progressed to the role of event manager. After almost four years at Heller Productions, I moved from corporate events to association event management.

Specific improvement I’ve made: I created a partnership with the Street Haven at the Crossroads women’s shelter in Toronto to ensure that food that would otherwise go to waste is packaged and delivered to the shelter for distribution to the disenfranchised.

What I’m working on: I am planning for an event where our guest of honor and award recipient is Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. I am also excited about an upcoming medical and wellness conference and exhibition I am organizing this October.
