Now Open: JW Marriott Houston Downtown

Groups planning events at Houston’s George R. Brown Convention Center now have another hotel within walking distance: JW Marriott Houston Downtown. The 328-room property opened in November 2014 in Houston’s first skyscraper, the 104-year-old Samuel F. Carter Building. The $80 million property has nine meeting rooms with more than 16,000 square feet of event space, a Houston-themed restaurant, spa and executive lounge. “Houston’s phenomenal growth continues to capture national and international headlines, and [we want to reflect] the city’s vibrant arts and culinary scene,” says Natalie Wiseman, the hotel’s director of sales and marketing. Its prime real estate on Main Street is convenient to George R. Brown Convention Center, the 12-acre Discovery Green Park and Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros. Minute Maid Park will also play host to cover star Taylor Swift’s 1989 tour on Oct. 13, 2015. The team has already tweeted out reassurance that the concert will be rescheduled if it coincides with a home playoff game—no matter how unlikely that may seem.
