SMG took over management of Pennsylvania Convention Center in downtown Philadelphia in December 2013. Since then, the center has made a number of changes to enhance the meeting experience.

Many of these changes involved hiring additional staff members. New executives were hired across departments, as were more floor managers, which allows for more one-on-one interaction with planners. SMG created a production services department to establish audiovisual and technological needs in the early stages of planning. In addition, there will be a manager on duty during all major events.

The LEED Gold-certified center is the 14th largest convention center in the United States. It has 679,000 square feet of exhibit space, seven exhibit halls and 82 meeting rooms. The 55,408-sq.-ft. Terrace Ballroom is on the fourth floor and can be divided into four rooms. It can hold 4,000 for banquets, 4,200 in a classroom setup and 6,000 theater-style.

The center’s sustainable practices include biodegradable food and beverage utensils, single-stream recycling and green cleaning products. The staff will work with planners to meet groups’ sustainability goals.

The convention center is within walking distance of many hotels, including Four Points by Sheraton Philadelphia City Center, Hampton Inn Philadelphia Center City-Convention Center and Philadelphia Marriott Downtown.
