Site Visit: Thompson Miami Beach

By Connect Staff, February 6, 2015

Perhaps brainstorming beachside at your ensuing corporate meeting might help facilitate the company’s next big idea. With the debut of the 380-room Thompson Miami Beach in November 2014, planners now have seven on-site venues with 8,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor event space surrounded by tropical gardens, swanky lounges and ocean views to inspire attendees to think outside the box.

The former Crown at Miami Beach apartment complex is an amalgamation of three connected towers completed in 1940, 1955 and 2007. Commune Hotels & Resorts put together an $82 million renovation to make it Thompson’s first project to bear the brand’s name in the Southeast.

The 1,360-sq.-ft. Tarelton Room with built-in AV, natural daylight and soundproof windows is a classic gathering space; however, spots such as the Crown Room (a book-lined breakout space on the second floor) and the Vista Lounge (an outdoor event area with a focus on bold colors) are more creative multifunctional venues on property. Two heated pools and their surrounding patios lend themselves to dramatic opening- and closing-night receptions, while the property’s restaurant, Seagrape, was dreamed up by James Beard Award winner Michelle Bernstein and can be used for larger events. What attendees and planners will really rave about? The quiet,off-the-strip ambience that keeps Miami’s loud partiers at bay.
