By Connect Staff, April 7, 2014

How do you provide a five-star experience for the international attendee without compromising culture or cash? Dr. Lemuel Berry Jr. of the National Association of Hispanic and Latino Studies discusses the importance of incorporating cultural awareness in meetings of diverse people. While acknowledging the fluctuating value of international currency exchange, he says, “We have to provide a broadband of experiences on a limited budget.” Dr. Berry also advises other meeting planners to provide cultural training for their staff members. “A challenge of ours is in translation and diversity within the organization,” he says. Also, working with convention centers and hotels that have accommodated international groups provides an assurance that attendees feel closer to home and will return again.
